Young Noah Bidson lives on the Colorado prairie in the 1870's. Being a homesteaders he doesn't go to school. But his parents want him to learn to read. Here's how he's taught.
If you are looking at this you are reading. And like most readers the ability to read is something you might well take for granted. And yet, history tells us that the idea that most people can or should read is quite recent. Even the idea that there should be school for everyone is new. For myself, after a lifetime of reading and writing I have no memory of learning to read. It's all something of a mystery.
